Defending champions Watanga FC kept their hopes of retaining the league title alive with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over leaders Fassell FC, while Bea Mountain suffered another defeat, losing 2-0 to Heaven Eleven FC.
In the match between Watanga and Fassell, Watanga delivered a strong performance to move up to 6th place in the league standings, reducing Fassell’s lead to just six points.
Fassell, who entered the match hoping to extend their lead at the top, failed to capitalize, despite a close first half in which both teams had chances but couldn’t score.
The breakthrough came in the second half when Watanga’s Nuch Zohn scored a stunning strike, securing all three points for the defending champions.
Watanga coach Cooper Sannah expressed his satisfaction after the game, saying, “It is a great day for us, especially with the necessity that we had to win the game.”
The defeat leaves Fassell at the top of the standings with 38 points after 19 games, while Heaven Eleven, who defeated Bea Mountain, moved into second place with 32 points.
Watanga now sit 6th with 27 points, still in the hunt for the title with seven games remaining.
Meanwhile, Bea Mountain suffered their fifth consecutive defeat, falling 2-0 to Heaven Eleven. Nicholas Andrew was the hero for Heaven Eleven, scoring both goals. As a result of their poor form, Bea Mountain has remained in 8th place with 25 points, and their Gambian coach, Tapha Manneh, resigned following their loss to Global Pharma FC last week.
At the D. Tweh Field, Blackman Warriors secured a 2-1 win over Global Pharma to move out of the relegation zone. The Warriors scored twice in the first half, with Karleo Karfiah pulling one back for Global Pharma with a free kick just before the break.
Despite efforts from the Pharmacists, the Warriors held firm to maintain their lead.
At the Dorris Williams Stadium, Mighty Barrolle fought to stay in the top flight with a goalless draw against LPRC Oilers. The result moved Barrolle up to 11th place with 19 points, just one point above the relegation zone, while Oilers remain in 7th place with 19 points.
With seven matches left in the season, the battle for the title and relegation continues to heat up.
