The appointments strengthen an institution the government is counting on to turn the country’s cultural, historical and natural assets into a larger source of jobs, investment and economic growth.

Monrovia — President Joseph Nyuma Boakai on Tuesday commissioned three deputy directors-general of the Liberia National Tourism Authority, completing the senior leadership structure of the relatively new agency as Liberia seeks to give tourism a more prominent role in its economic development.
The officials are Atty. Jani Kadiyatu Kollie, Deputy Director-General for Marketing and Promotions; Steveson Tweh Seidi, Deputy Director-General for Culture and Heritage; and Melvin Nye, Deputy Director-General for Finance and Corporate Services.
Their commissioning formally places senior officials over three areas that will be central to whether Liberia can translate its tourism ambitions into measurable results: promoting the country to domestic and international travelers, protecting and developing its cultural and heritage assets, and building the financial and administrative systems required to support the sector.
The appointments come at an important stage for the Liberia National Tourism Authority, which was established as the country moves to consolidate tourism governance and strengthen the institutional framework for an industry that has historically remained underdeveloped despite Liberia’s considerable natural and cultural resources.

Liberia has an extensive Atlantic coastline, biodiversity and protected areas, historic sites connected to the country’s founding, distinctive cultural traditions and an emerging creative economy.
Ms. Kollie will oversee the Authority’s marketing and promotional portfolio, including national destination branding, international and domestic tourism promotion, communications, digital engagement and efforts to strengthen Liberia’s visibility in regional and global travel markets.
Mr. Seidi will lead the Culture and Heritage portfolio, placing him at the center of efforts to preserve, promote and economically integrate Liberia’s culture, heritage sites and related creative economy into the country’s broader tourism offering.

Mr. Nye will oversee Finance and Corporate Services, with responsibility for the financial, administrative and institutional systems needed to sustain the Authority’s operations and implement its programs.
Together, the three deputies join the Authority’s senior leadership at a time when expectations for the institution are rising.
Liberia is seeking to compete for a larger share of Africa’s expanding tourism market while addressing longstanding constraints, including limited destination infrastructure, weak international visibility, gaps in tourism data, service standards and investment, and the need for stronger preservation and management of cultural and heritage assets.
The commissioning therefore represents more than the filling of senior government posts. It gives the Tourism Authority a complete executive structure at a point when the institution is expected to demonstrate whether Liberia can move from promoting its tourism potential to building a functioning and competitive tourism economy.
