MONROVIA — The 2026 edition of the Grand Cape Mount County District Meet is scheduled to kick off on September 13 at the Weelor Sports Ground in Weelor Town, Tewor District.

Martin M. Gray, Chairman of the County District Meet Committee, emphasized that the primary goal of the tournament is to foster unity among residents while preparing the county for the upcoming 2026/2027 National County Sports Meet.
Gray confirmed that all five of the county’s administrative districts, Garwular, Pokpa, Gola Konneh, Tewor, and Commonwealth, have officially completed their registration process and are fully prepared for the opening fixtures.
Pokpa District and Commonwealth District enter the tournament as the defending champions in football and kickball, respectively.
“The main aim of our county district league is to help unify our people, as sports remain one of the most powerful tools for bringing citizens together,” Gray said. “Additionally, this league will serve as a platform to better prepare our county teams for the upcoming National County Sports Meet.”
Gray also issued an appeal to Cape Mountians at home and abroad to provide financial and material support to aid the county’s sports teams during their preparations.
“We are calling on all citizens of the county who have the financial capacity to contribute, whether through monetary support or sporting equipment, to assist our teams as they prepare for the national stage,” he urged.
Furthermore, the committee chairman cautioned district sports officials, players, and supporters to demonstrate good sportsmanship and maintain discipline throughout the tournament.
“I am emphasizing good sportsmanship because the core objective of these meets is to work hand-in-hand for the growth and skill development of our youth,” Gray noted. “We call on officials from all five participating districts to ensure that players and fans follow the rules, avoid violence, and adhere strictly to the scheduled match times.”
