Senate Recommends Confirmation For Under-fire Health Minister-Designate

Monrovia – The Senate’s Committees on Health chaired by Senator Dr. (MD) Peter Coleman has recommended the confirmation of the controversial Health Minister-designate, Dr. Wilhelmina Jallah.

On Thursday, March 22, the Senate Committees on Health, Gender, Children and Social Protection, Commerce, Information Broadcast, Culture and Tourism, Ways, Means, Finance and Public Works amongst several others recommended confirmation for several nominees.

Since Dr. Jallah’s nomination as Health Minister-designate, there have been mixed reactions from the public.

Some called on the Senate to reject her nomination, while others peacefully gathered to show their support for her confirmation.

Days after her nomination as Health Minister-designate, a family claimed that she’s culpable for the death of their relative.

Larry Fahnbulleh, widower of the late Pastor Desiree Fahnbulleh, urged President George Manneh Weah to withdraw Dr. Jallah’s appointment.

“We are hurt; deeply frustrated over the nomination of Dr. Wilhelmina Jallah as Minister of Health, Republic of Liberia,” said Mr. Fahnbulleh at a press conference on Wednesday, February 7 in Monrovia.

Dr. Jallah is an experienced practicing General Physician in Obstetrics and Gynecology.

The Health Minister-designate private clinic is currently facing a lawsuit for the ‘wrongful death’ of the late Pastor Desiree Fahnbulleh, who died at Dr. Jallah’s Hope for Women International Incorporated hospital, during childbirth on December 8, 2016.

The Fahnbulleh family then filed a US$6 million action of damages for wrongful death lawsuit against the hospital with the 6th Judicial Circuit Civil Law Court at the Temple of Justice in Monrovia.
