Monrovia – Sister Aid Liberia Inc. (SALI), in collaboration with UN Women and with support from the Embassy of Ireland, has finalized and validated an updated Women’s Political Empowerment and Leadership Clinic training manual following an intensive two-week consultative review.
The milestone advances the goals of the project, “Strengthening Women’s Leadership in Local Governance and Peacebuilding,” which seeks to enhance women’s leadership, agency, and meaningful participation in decision-making processes across Liberia.
Rigorous Two-Week Review
The review process involved a structured, participatory, and iterative assessment of the Leadership Clinic curriculum to ensure it reflects current realities in governance, leadership, and gender equality.
The exercise began with a comprehensive revision of the training materials, followed by a technical review session that brought together UN Women–trained experts, representatives from the Gender Division of the National Elections Commission (NEC), former political candidates, media professionals, and other key stakeholders.
Participants provided detailed, context-specific feedback aimed at strengthening both the technical depth and practical relevance of the curriculum.
The process concluded with a one-day validation session in Monrovia, where collective reflections and expert inputs were consolidated into a final, approved manual.
Eleven Core Modules
The validated manual now contains 11 core modules covering gender concepts, leadership foundations, personal development, time management, communication skills, transformational leadership, conflict management, team building, strategic thinking and planning, change management, coaching, and mentoring.
Organizers say the updated materials are technically sound, contextually relevant, and ready for nationwide rollout among women leaders and Peace Hut members.
Building Long-Term Leadership Capacity
The revised framework emphasizes long-term leadership readiness rather than short-term engagement, with a focus on transformative leadership — including addressing power dynamics, strengthening self-awareness, and fostering collective action.
By equipping women with practical tools and strategic skills, the Leadership Clinic aims to enhance women’s effectiveness in local governance, community leadership, and peacebuilding initiatives.
Stakeholders at the validation event confirmed that the approved materials will now be deployed under SALI’s ongoing leadership development and political empowerment programs.
The initiative is expected to contribute to more inclusive, gender-responsive, and participatory governance in Liberia while strengthening the pipeline of capable women leaders nationwide.
