Monrovia—A pro-democracy organization, the Platform to Protect Whistleblowers in Africa (PPLAAF), is forging a strategic partnership with the Office for the Establishment of the War and Economic Crimes Court in Liberia (OWECC-L) to strengthen accountability and justice in the country.
The partnership and collaboration come at a critical moment as both institutions intensify efforts to combat corruption and impunity across Africa.
Speaking during a meeting on Thursday at the OWECC-L, Executive Director Dr. Cllr. Jallah A. Barbu commended PPLAAF for its commitment to protecting whistleblowers whose disclosures serve the public interest.
He underscored the vital role of civil society organizations in the fight against corruption, noting that accountability is key to preventing civil unrest and promoting lasting peace.
Dr. Barbu expressed appreciation for PPLAAF’s engagement in Liberia and encouraged the organization to establish a permanent presence in the country, describing Liberia as a peaceful environment conducive to advancing its mission.
He further assured the delegation that an Anti-Corruption Court is expected to be established by November 2026, reinforcing the legal framework necessary to enhance accountability.
For his part, PPLAAF Executive Director and anti-corruption activist Jimmy Kande reaffirmed the organization’s dedication to protecting whistleblowers across the continent.
“We are committed to amplifying their voices and advocating for stronger legal protections,” he said.
According to Fatimatou Faye, PPLAAF Project Officer, the partnership marks a significant step toward strengthening transparent and accountable governance in Liberia and beyond.
Representatives of the both organizations, however, expressed readiness to work collaboratively to ensure justice prevails in the region.
