Liberia: Wologizi FC Clinch Second Division Title, Earn Promotion to First Division

The triumph is Wologizi’s first major title since entering the Second Division just two seasons ago.

Monrovia – Wologizi Football Club have been crowned champions of the Liberia Football Association (LFA) 2024/2025 Second Division League, marking a major milestone for the Lofa County-based club.

Despite a 3-0 defeat to NPA Anchors on the final day of the season, Wednesday, April 16, Wologizi finished at the top of the table with 68 points from 30 matches, securing both the league title and automatic promotion to the First Division for the 2025/2026 season.

Wologizi had already clinched the title on March 28, 2025, with four games to spare following a dominant 7-1 victory over Mighty Enforcers FC. The result, coupled with a draw from second-place Jubilee FC, mathematically sealed Wologizi’s position as champions.

The triumph is Wologizi’s first major title since entering the Second Division just two seasons ago, and their success is being celebrated as a rapid rise through the ranks of Liberian football.

Head coach Jasper Benfelix, who joined the club after resigning from Nimba Kwado following their relegation last season, has now earned his second promotion from the Second Division to the First. He previously achieved the feat with Cece United.

Speaking to FrontPage Africa, Benfelix described the championship as a personal vindication.

“This is a statement of justification—champion for the second time, same fashion, with four games left to play. I was tagged a failure and called names. Today, I’ve proven what focus and chasing a dream really mean,” Benfelix said.

Meanwhile, Downtown FC also secured promotion to the First Division after finishing in third place. However, Jubilee FC, who finished second, have been relegated to the Third Division after being found guilty of submitting fake documents to the LFA. The club also failed to pay a US$10,000 fine within the stipulated period.

Jubilee FC, known as “the Church Boys,” have formally appealed the LFA’s decision and are awaiting a response from the governing body.
