Liberia: Two Dead, Four Hospitalized in Critical Condition After VP Koung’s EPS Vehicle Crashes in Nimba

GANTA – A vehicle with plate number EPS 79 assigned to protect Vice President Jeremiah Koung killed two people and left four others hospitalized in critical condition at the Esther and Jereline Koung Medical Hospital in Ganta City, Nimba County.

 The red pickup, traveling from Tappita in Lower Nimba County toward Monrovia, collided with the Black Executive Protection Service (EPS) Vehicle, which was heading from Vice President Koung’s farm toward Ganta.

Eyewitnesses reported that the EPS 79 had been speeding through Ganta’s main streets before the crash.

The incident occurred around 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 18 at the farm of Senator Samuel Kogar on the Ganta – Kpain Highway in Nimba County District Number 8.

The victims, all from Tappita City, two out of six,   were pronounced dead at the Esther and Jereline Koung (E&J) in Ganta.

They were identified as Anna Behyee, about 60 years old, and Joe Bantu, the pickup’s driver.

Three other passengers from the pickup 22- year-old Princess Zarmie, 35-year-old  Tee boy Gaye, and 58-year -old Elizabeth Saye remain in critical condition at the hospital.

The EPS vehicle is reportedly part of Vice President Koung’s motorcade. He is currently in Nimba County after celebrating his birthday on his farm.

Following the crash, the vice president visited the government-funded hospital, offering hope to the injured.

Meanwhile, the EPS 79 vehicle has not been impounded at any police station in Ganta and its location remains unknown.
