Monrovia-Deputy Commissioner for Administration-designate of the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS), Mr. Nelsco Aleo Wolo, has outlined a reform plan aimed at transforming the institution into a transparent, professional, and intelligence-driven agency that upholds national integrity while advancing regional and global cooperation.
Appearing before the Senate Committee on National Security, Intelligence and Veteran Affairs on Tuesday, November 11, Mr. Wolo presented a clear vision that emphasizes efficiency, accountability, and institutional modernization.
“We intend to build a transparent and professional administration that promotes trust, accountability, and sustainable development,” Mr. Wolo stated.
“Our duty will be to ensure sound management and financial control systems that promote fiscal discipline and responsible use of public resources.”
If confirmed, Mr. Wolo will assume responsibility for overseeing the day-to-day administrative operations of the LIS, including human resources, budgeting, and procurement.
He pledged to institute performance-based systems that improve service delivery and ensure that border management and immigration control are conducted with professionalism and integrity.
A major component of his plan involves the improvement of employee welfare, digitization of personnel records, and the revitalization of training and manpower development programs.
He underscored the importance of capacity building, promising to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the current workforce to identify training needs and skills gaps.
“We will seek local and international partnerships to provide specialized training that builds a competent, motivated, and future-ready workforce,” he said.
“The welfare and wellbeing of our officers remain central to our reform agenda.”
Mr. Wolo also highlighted the need for strong inter-agency collaboration and public-private cooperation to strengthen governance, enhance logistical capacity, and ensure effective migration management across the country.
“We will work with our partners and the hardworking men and women in uniform to continue promoting the image of Liberia abroad, while upholding the trust of the Liberian people at home,” he added.
