Liberia: Kadi’s Restaurant Rebuts Minister Bangalu’s Claims, Raises Questions Over Internal Issues at Youth Ministry

Paynesville – Ms.  Kadi Porte, the owner of Kadi’s Restaurant has clarified recent claims made by Minister J. Cole Bangalu regarding FrontPage Africa’s (FPA) performance rating of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, describing his assertions as misleading and inappropriate.

According to Ms. Porte, the Minister’s suggestion that the Ministry received an “F” because it refused to provide free electricity to Kadi’s Restaurant is false. She explained that the existing lease agreement between the restaurant and the Ministry clearly places responsibility for electricity supply on the Ministry of Youth and Sports. She stressed that she has never requested illegal free current and fully respects the Liberia Electricity Corporation’s (LEC) metering system.

Ms. Porte emphasized that FrontPage Africa’s performance scorecard is an independent editorial assessment over which she has no influence.

“Using my name to justify the Ministry’s poor rating is inappropriate,” she stated.

Internal Issues at the Ministry Highlighted

Ms.  Porte noted that if performance and accountability are being discussed, the public also deserves clarity on internal matters within the Minister’s office—specifically the reported transfer of drivers Kollie Zayzay, Joshua Walker, and Thomas Gray following disagreements over domestic travel allowances.

She  said that during official local trips involving the Minister, drivers were allegedly instructed to encash their checks and return the funds to the Minister’s office through his Special Assistant, Mr. Solomon Vah.

The minister did not respond as of press time.

Ms. Porte maintained that she is a reputable businesswoman who meets all legal obligations, and reiterated that any concerns about FPA’s editorial judgment should be directed to FrontPage Africa—not to her.
