Liberia: June 7 Protest Forces Liberia Basketball Association to Suspend League Fixtures

Liberia Basketball Association has suspended all basketball activities this weekend

Monrovia – The Liberia Basketball Association has suspended all its weekend matches with immediate effect.

Four games were scheduled to take place on Friday June 7, 2019 as per the LBA league calendar.

The Friday fixtures include Georgia Warriors versus Invincible Invaders in the day’s first game while Islanders were paired against Gifty Legends.

Commission Basketball squad against Bushrod Bulls and Mighty Barrolle was to face C. Monrovia Pistons in the day’s late kick-off.

But Liberia online sports basketball correspondent said fans and clubs were shocked when the games were abruptly suspended.

Though the Basketball leadership did not give any justifiable reason, but information gathered is that the decision was taken due to growing tensions about the ‘SAVE THE STATE’ June 7 protest.

Our source said due to fear of disruption or low turnout, the Liberia Basketball Association abruptly decided to postpone its games on Friday.

Whether the protest will go ahead as planned or not, the basketball body has joined some institutions already closed to avoid future embarrassments.

Already, the Basketball league is being threatened by the Rainy Season and further delays will continue to undermine the ongoing league season.

Meanwhile, the Basketball body is yet to decide the new date for the delayed fixtures.
