Liberia: FA Cup Final Stadium Condemned

FC Fassell’s head coach, Emmanuel Kaykay has condemned the Dorris Williams Stadium ahead of the FA Cup Final on June 16, 2019.

Coach Kaykay, who was unimpressed with the state of the pitch following his side’s draw against FA Cup finalist Barrack Young Controllers, said the stadium “is worse to host the FA Cup final.”

The stadium will play host to BYC and LISCR FC final clash in the Port City of Buchanan.

Liberia Football Association (LFA) president, Mustapha Raji announced in his first press conference on January 18, 2019, that the final will be staged in Grand Bassa County as part of his administration’s effort to decentralize football.

“Look at the FA Cup, we promised to decentralize football in the country. So our FA Cup final will be played in Grand Bassa County because this administration intends to move football around the country,” Raji had said.

Coach Kaykay, who previously applauded the football house in January for the decentralization of the game, alleged that the LFA has done nothing to address the facility in Buchanan. 

“That Dorris Williams stadium that I saw yesterday when my team FC Fassell played BYC, is very far from a stadium to host such a final,” Coach Kaykay commented in TalkFootball Chatroom.

“There is absolutely nothing there for such a cup final to play. There’s no bathroom, dressing room is unhygienic, the entire stadium is dirty, seating areas are worse.”

“That Dorris Williams stadium is deformed, the idea to rotate the FA Cup final is good, but the chosen venue is worse to host a final,” he said.

Adding, “The pitch is always very wet, water sits certain areas, the pitch itself is not really playable and playing on such pitch is difficult, and makes the game slow.”

“Supporting the idea was fine, but the LFA has done absolutely nothing to have the place improve for games,” Coach Kaykay furthered informed FrontPageAfrica.
