
MONROVIA – Internal Affairs Minister Varney A. Sirleaf on behalf of the President of Liberia, Amb. George M. Weah has made available 5,000 bags of rice and five million Liberian dollars to the Muslim community as President Weah’s way of identifying with Muslim brothers and sisters during their moment of fasting.

The Internal Affairs Minister Varney A. Sirleaf, on Monday at his Internal affairs office made the pronouncement on behalf of the Liberian President the amount of L$5M and 5,000 bags of rice that will be distributed across the 15 political counties of Liberia through heads of Muslims and superintendents of each county.
Minister Sirleaf said the president’s donation was his way of identifying with the Muslim community as they observed the holy month of Ramadan (fasting) which is known as a month of charity to the needy and among Muslims.
“We have come this morning to announce to the fasting Muslim public a gesture from our father of the nation, President George M. Weah, who usually identifies with the Muslim communities since he began as President of Liberia.” He further said, “Today, the President made available some rice and soup kinds in the amount of L$5 million and 5000 bags of rice that will be going to all the 15th Counties.”
Sirleaf called on the superintendents to quickly distribute the donation to Muslims in the counties to ensure it is used for internal purposes.
“So, I just want to take this time to thank the father of the nation and, being a Muslim myself, for identifying with us the fasting Muslims during this holy month of Ramadan. He has been doing it, and he will continue to do it,” he said.
Sirleaf called on the superintendents that will be receiving the items on behalf of the Muslim communities to distribute the items. According to him, the president intends to help poor people live better life under his watch.
He further used the occasion to congratulate the newly elected chairman of the National Muslims Council of Liberia, Alhaji Abraham F. Sheriff and his co-officers on their free and fair elections to stir the affairs of the Muslim community in Liberia.
For her part, Superintendent Esther Walker of Bong County in attendance thanked President Weah for the gesture and vowed to carry out the distribution to the Muslim communities.
