Sinkor, Monrovia — The Indian Community in Liberia, together with members of the diplomatic corps, government officials and invited guests, gathered on Saturday to celebrate Holi, popularly known as the Festival of Colors.

The celebration, hosted by the Embassy of India to Liberia, took place at the Residence of the Ambassador on 7th Street in Sinkor, Monrovia.
The vibrant event brought together people from diverse backgrounds for a day filled with cultural performances, music, dancing and the traditional throwing of colorful powders.
The atmosphere was lively as guests joined members of the Indian community in spreading bright colors, sharing laughter and enjoying traditional songs performed by Indian artists.
The Ambassador, surrounded by guests and well-wishers, was seen smiling and interacting warmly with attendees throughout the celebration.
In his opening remarks, the Ambassador welcomed members of the Indian community, the diplomatic corps, and friends of India, wishing everyone a joyful celebration.
He described Holi as a festival that symbolizes the victory of good over evil, as well as love, unity, happiness and togetherness.
“Holi is a festival of colors and also a celebration of the triumph of good over evil,” the Ambassador said. “It is a time to spread love, joy, and happiness among people.”
Holi traces its origins to ancient Hindu traditions and is associated with the legend of Prahlada, a devoted follower of the god Vishnu.
According to the story, Prahlada survived an attempt on his life by his father, Hiranyakashipu, with the help of his aunt Holika, who was ultimately consumed by fire while Prahlada was saved symbolizing the triumph of faith and righteousness.
Primarily celebrated in India and Nepal, Holi marks the arrival of spring and is traditionally observed with the throwing of colored powders and water, music, dancing and the sharing of festive foods.
Over the years, the celebration has spread across the globe and is now embraced by diverse communities as a symbol of unity, cultural exchange, and joy.
