Liberia: Government Drops Fraud Charges Against Jasper White, Director for Land Transport at Transport Ministry

Mr. Jasper White, Director for Land Transport at the Ministry of Transport

Monrovia-The Government of Liberia(GoL), through the Ministry of Justice, has withdrawn and dismissed all criminal charges against Jasper White, Director for Land Transport at the Ministry of Transport in Liberia   in a case before the Monrovia Traffic Court involving an alleged fraudulent application for a vehicle registration certificate.

According to a Clerk’s Certificate issued by the Monrovia Traffic Court on July 6, the prosecution entered a nolle prosequi, formally ending the criminal proceedings against White.

The case, captioned Republic of Liberia by and through the Ministry of Justice versus Jasper White, was assigned before Acting Traffic Court Judge Anthony S. Doyah. White had been accused of fraudulent application for a registration certificate.

Following the government’s decision to discontinue the prosecution, the court ordered that White be discharged and released from the case.

The Clerk’s Certificate states that the dismissal was made consistent with Article 21(j) of the 1986 Constitution of the Republic of Liberia, thereby restoring White’s constitutional rights in connection with the matter.

The certificate, signed by Clerk of Court Martin L. K. Sherman and bearing the official seal of the Monrovia Traffic Court, serves as the legal authority confirming the dismissal of the case and White’s discharge.

The court document does not state the reasons for the Ministry of Justice’s decision to withdraw the charges.
