MONROVIA — ForumCiv Liberia has thrown its support behind an initiative led by the European Union to establish a stronger and more coordinated framework for civil society organizations operating in Liberia.

The organization’s Country Manager, Asa D. Chon, joined civil society representatives from different sectors on Wednesday, August 26, for a CSO Roadmap Validation Workshop organized by the Delegation of the European Union in Liberia.
The workshop focused on reviewing a proposed roadmap intended to guide and strengthen the work of civil society organizations by improving coordination, collaboration and participation across the sector.
The engagement also provided stakeholders with an opportunity to assess whether the proposed roadmap adequately captures the concerns, priorities and aspirations of Liberia’s civil society organizations.
EU Ambassador to Liberia H.E. Nona Deprez participated in the workshop virtually, with the European Union reaffirming its interest in supporting a civil society sector capable of contributing effectively to Liberia’s development.
For ForumCiv Liberia, the validation process represents an important opportunity to establish a common direction for civil society organizations and encourage greater cooperation among groups working in different sectors.
The organization said the roadmap could help create a more inclusive and resilient civil society environment while enhancing the ability of organizations to work collectively on issues affecting Liberia.
Civil society organizations have long served as important actors in development, advocacy, citizen participation and community engagement.
The proposed roadmap seeks to provide a shared framework through which those contributions can be better coordinated.
According to ForumCiv, stronger coordination among CSOs would not only improve the effectiveness of individual organizations but could also strengthen the collective contribution of the sector to national development.
The organization welcomed the European Union’s involvement in the process and expressed appreciation for its support toward building a stronger and more inclusive civil society sector in Liberia.
