Benter Toe, known locally as “Old Ma Benter,” died from severe injuries after being hit by a motorcycle that reportedly lost control while traveling from River Gee.
Eyewitnesses said the impact broke her legs multiple times. She was pronounced dead upon arrival at Pleebo Health Center.
The motorcycle operator, Elton W. Yeaney, a teacher from Tappita, Nimba County, and his passenger, Princess Miamen from Ganta, sustained serious injuries in the April 3 crash.
Medical staff at Pleebo Health Center are considering transferring them to JJ Dossen Referral Hospital in Harper due to their critical condition.
“She was a hardworking woman who supported herself and her grandson by selling crushed rocks at the local quarry,” said a community member who knew the victim. Her 9-year-old grandson, for whom she was the sole provider, was at school when the accident occurred.
Jasper Bilibi, Boniken Township Commissioner, temporarily received the victim’s remains until family members arrived.
The Liberia National Police Traffic Division in Karluway District has impounded the motorcycle as the investigation continues.
The fatal accident has heightened safety concerns among Tubman Farm residents, particularly for schoolchildren who walk daily along the route to attend school in Boniken.
