Liberia: Eight Players from Professional Sports Academy Selected for Liberia U-17 Handball Team

Monrovia – Eight players from Liberia’s only handball academy, the Professional Sports Academy (PSA), have been invited to join the Liberia National Handball Association (LNHA) U-17 female squad as they continue preparations for the upcoming International Handball Federation (IHF) Youth and Junior Women’s Tournament.

The tournament is scheduled to take place in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, from April 20 to 24, 2025. Liberia’s U-17 team will compete in a challenging group alongside Nigeria, Ghana, Togo, Niger, and host country Ivory Coast.

The players were selected based on their strong performances during the past three months of training. Aliuthe Zoana Taylor, head coach of PSA, confirmed the selection, praising the players for their exceptional skills and physical fitness.

“We’ve been in constant communication with LNHA president Aratus G. Larkpor and officials, and after observing the athletes, I believe these eight players are more than capable of joining the U-17 squad. They are highly skilled on the ball and physically fit, which makes them a great fit for the national team,” Coach Taylor said.

Though he refrained from naming the eight players specifically, Taylor emphasized the importance of the academy’s training program in helping athletes reach the level required for national team selection.

“We are proud of these athletes and hopeful that they will bring their talents to the national squad, continuing the tradition of excellence at PSA. Their selection to the U-17 team is a result of their hard work and the valuable training they’ve received at the academy,” he added.

The handball tournament in Abidjan will serve as an important event for the development of Liberia’s young female handball players as they compete at the international level.
