Liberia: Danielle A. Urey Named Youngest Board Chairman at LoneStar Cell/MTN

Monrovia – Lonestar Cell MTN has named Ms. Danielle A. Urey as the youngest, and first female Chairman of its Board of Directors. This historic decision was reached through a unanimous vote by MTN Group and the Liberian partners. MTN Group is a leading mobile telecommunications operator with presence in 21 countries in Africa and the Middle East. She is the youngest female Chairperson in the history of MTN.

Ms. Urey comes to this crucial position highly prepared. She holds a BBA in Finance and a BBA in Business Administration from the University of San Diego in California, U.S.A.

She also holds a master’s degree in Energy, Trade and Finance from Cass Business School in London, UK.  And another master’s degree in Management of Projects from the University of Manchester, Manchester, UK.

She has built an impressive professional footprint working across several industries, beginning in 2007 in San Diego as a Finance Intern with Washington Mutual; linking up buyers and sellers in the real estate market. In 2008, she moved on to The Founders Group| NRP Financial, as a Finance Intern; preparing documents and information required to buy municipal bonds, among other tasks.

In 2009-2010, she worked at the United Bank for Africa Liberia Ltd as Credit Risk Officer.

In 2013, she joined AFREN PLC- Lagos, Nigeria, a world-class independent oil and gas firm with a myriad of assets across the globe, as a Business Development Intern.

Ms. Urey joined the team at the National Oil Company of Liberia (NOCAL) as Assistant Chief of Staff to the CEO, in 2013.

Ms. Urey joined the Lonestar Cell MTN team in 2017 as a director on Board and she has now gone on to become its Chairman after a year. Quite a feat. She is also an entrepreneur with holdings in a string of business ventures here in Liberia and Nigeria.

It’s a particularly interesting time at Lonestar Cell MTN. The CEO who is Nigerian is a female, while the Deputy CEO who is a Liberian is also a female.
