Gbarngar, Bong County— The Bong County Legislative Caucus has called for a speedy and fair trial for former Vice-President Jewel Howard-Taylor, who is being held at Monrovia Central Prison over allegations including drug trafficking and money laundering.
In a statement issued Monday, the lawmakers said Taylor is entitled to due process and the presumption of innocence until proven guilty in court.
The Caucus said it visited Taylor following her arrest on 19 August and expressed support for her, while stressing that its position should not be seen as interference in the judicial process.
The lawmakers urged the government, Ministry of Justice and judiciary to handle the case with professionalism, impartiality and transparency, while cautioning against political interference and public prejudgment.
They also appealed to citizens to avoid speculation and allow the courts to establish the facts.
The Caucus raised concerns about the length of Taylor’s pre-trial detention and urged authorities to ensure the case proceeds without unnecessary delay.
