PARIS, France – Liberia’s Minister of Youth and Sports,Attorney Cornelia W. Kruah, has embarked on a high-level working visit to France, securing critical partnerships aimed at strengthening the country’s sports development and Olympic preparation programs.

The five-day visit, which runs from April 27 to May 1, 2026, is being facilitated by Liberia’s Ambassador to France, H.E. Teeko Tozay Yorlay, Sr.
According to a release from the Liberian Embassy in France the diplomatic push follows the General Cooperation Agreement signed in October 2025 by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai and French President Emmanuel Macron, which identifies sports development as a primary pillar of bilateral cooperation.
Olympic Preparation Receives Major Boost
A major highlight of the mission occurred on Tuesday, April 28, when Minister Kruah and her delegation held strategic talks with officials of the French National Olympic Committee (CNOSF) at the Maison du Sport Français.
During the meeting, CNOSF Executive Director Edward Donnelly disclosed a preliminary commitment to support Liberia’s preparation for the 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, Senegal.
The support package is expected to provide technical assistance in athlete training, coaching development, and referee certification.
The two parties also discussed the possibility of a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the CNOSF and the Liberia National Olympic Committee (LNOC).
The agreement would focus on long-term sports development, governance, and the creation of sustainable Olympic pathway programs.
With athletics identified as Liberia’s primary qualification route for Dakar 2026, officials believe the partnership offers a timely opportunity to enhance the country’s competitiveness on the global stage.
Expanding Cooperation Across Multiple Sectors
Beyond Olympic preparations, the Liberian delegation has engaged in a series of high-stakes meetings covering youth empowerment, digital skills development, and broader sports collaboration.
On Day One, the delegation met with Digital Skills Factory CEO Anna Maria Perrin at the Liberian Embassy in Paris to discuss youth-centric digital training initiatives.
The Plans for establishing a sports academy in Liberia were explored with Ya’ats Sports, followed by a diaspora media engagement with TELESUD.
Representatives of former international football star Ludovic Giuly now CEO of GoatSiders—discussed potential collaborations to enhance Liberia’s global sporting profile.
On Day Two, engagements shifted to the French National Institute of Sport (INSEP).
Liberian officials met with representatives from the French federations of basketball, volleyball, handball, and judo. The discussions centered on coaching certification, grassroots youth development, and increasing female participation in sports.
The visit is expected to culminate in a pivotal bilateral meeting with France’s Minister of Sports, Youth, and Community Life, H.E. Marina Ferrari.
The release added that the meeting is regarded as one of the most significant diplomatic engagements of the trip, intended to solidify the sports-based ties between the two nations.
Additionally, a roundtable and cocktail reception is scheduled at the Liberian Embassy under the theme: “Sport, Youth and Business on the International Stage:
Minister Kruah is expected to deliver a keynote address outlining the government’s strategy to transition sports into a viable economic industry.

Diplomatic observers say the mission signals a renewed push by the Boakai administration to position sports as a primary tool for youth empowerment, international cooperation, and economic growth.
With less than a year remaining until the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, stakeholders are optimistic that the partnerships forged in France will play a decisive role in shaping Liberia’s athletic performance and its long-term sports development trajectory.
