Monrovia – Things seem to be going really bad in the Unity Party as the party is witnessing the exit of several key officials. The debate over who becomes the party’s standard bearer and chairman on the road to 2017 is twisting with an ugly turn.
In a meeting in the office of Senator Edward Dagoseh (Grand Cape Mount) late Tuesday evening, two UP lawmakers, Representatives Mariamu Fofana of Lofa County and Edwin Snowe of Montserrado County could not hide their dislike for one another as the pro and anti-Tyler lawmakers launched a stinging attack against each other.
Representative Fofana is one of the Unity party lawmakers who is strongly against the removal of Speaker Alex Tyler even though he is no longer a member of the party.
Representative Fofana, like many others believe that the Global Witness report is not sufficient to unseat a speaker.
Unlike Fofana, Representative Snowe appears to be leading the campaign calling on speaker Tyler to recuse himself from presiding in the wake of the report which has accused him and other senior government officials of bribery.
In the Tuesday June 28 meeting that brought together other senior partisans outside the legislature, including businessman George Kailondo, Representative Snowe accused Representative Fofanan of sending text messages to people to call on the Costa radio show to insult the president, a statement she angrily responded to by agreeing and promising to do more.
In return, Representative Fofana accused Snowe of carrying propaganda to Vice President Joseph Boakai about her position to support speaker Tyler.
Verbal exchange as it happened
Snowe: “I will move him! Is it now that he knows government can kill people or President can give money to lawmaker? You cannot insult me …. I will deal with you….”
Fofana: What can you do to me? You cannot do me a damn thing .You are not even a member of UP you don’t pay dues. If I wasn’t paying my dues, the UP would be dead by now. You ran away and went to the CDC. You wearing all jersey no one know where you belong.
Snowe: “You sent the message to Costa….”
Fofana: “Only a fool will believe you.”
Senator Dagoseh: “Have it quiet my people.”
Fofana: “No! As long as he is talking I will continue to talk—I am tired with his nonsense. He was the first to go to the vice President to discuss me .You think I am scared? I am not like you.”
Snowe: “Take this from me—he will be removed. Is it now he knows government can kill people? Let him tell us about Allison—watch it and see. You sent the message this morning.”
Fofana: “You went to the President and told her to tell Varney to stay away from me.
Snowe: “Yes! You had Costa insulting me and Medina yesterday, then this morning you sending text messages around telling people to call and insult the President.”
Fofana: “Have you not insulted others here? That is why they are insulting you.”
Dagosseh: “Quiet, people.”
Fofana: “Why will I sit for this fool to put his mouth on me.
Snowe: “Your leave her, that shame got her.”
