Gbarnga – Alfalit International Liberia has concluded the donation and distribution of over 800 bags of rice and other assorted food items valued over seventeen thousand United States Dollars to the Women in Peace Building Liberia (WIPNET) in Bong, Montserrado, Grand Bassa, Bomi and Margibi counties.
This donation is the biggest donation ever since Alfalit International and Alfalit Liberia began a partnership with WIPNET.
The donation includes rice, oil, cooking cube (Vita) and kidney beans.
According to the director of Alfalit Liberia, Rev. Emmanuel Giddings, this year’s donation to Grand Bassa, Bomi, Margibi, and Bong Counties is Alfalit International way of identifying with the women and decentralizing its 2 times a year food donation to WIPNET in order not to limit the donation to WIPNET members in only urban setting (Monrovia).
Each year, Alfalit Liberia with support from its mother Organization, Alfalit International donates food and non-food items to the Women in Peace Building Network as their Christmas and Independence celebration gifts aimed at putting smiles on their faces.
At the start of the distribution, Rev. Giddings said “for the past 4 years Alfalit has been giving WIPNET Christmas and Independence gifts to only WIPNET Montserrado County Brach, but his year with the approval and funding from our Head Office, we are decentralizing the distribution”
“Though the country is now peaceful and people are moving on with their lives, Alfalit International Liberia still appreciates the role of the Women in Peace Building Networking in helping to restore peace to Liberia during the civil war, and we feel by doing this, it’s just to show them that we have not forgotten them”
Montserrado County received 313 bags of rice, Bomi County 100 bags, Grand Bassa- 50, Bong 294 bags while Kakata County received the total of 40 bags of rice as well as the other assorted food items.
Receiving the donation in Gbarnga, Bong County, the Coordinator of WIPNET in Gbarnga Madam Cerue Lyeah, thanked Alfalit International for the donation describing the gesture as timely and one that the women appreciate so hardly.
“I want to be so grateful to Alfalit International, to Rev. Emmanuel Giddings and his staff, this surprise is a good surprise for us because as this 26 to comes, these women did not even know where to get money from to buy a bag of rice. A bag of rice is almost $3,000 Liberian Dollars, where will they get it from?
“I want to praise God that Alfalit International could think about these vulnerable women. We will never forget what Alfalit has done for our women today”.
She furthered appreciated Alfalit International for teaching the women to read and write over the years, something she said has brought great changes in the lives of the women under the peace hut; “because of Alfalit, most of the our women can now read, write and sign their own names, they are no longer using their tombs to sign”. The Gbarnga WIPNET coordinator said in her remarks.
In all the counties, towns and places visited, jubilations by the women marked the distribution, with the recipients describing the donation as timely and a great relief to them in this Independence Day celebration week.
The distribution will was climaxed on Saturday at WIPNET’s main peace hut opposite Fish Market in Sinkor, with 313 bags of rice and the other items donated to the women.
