TOTOTA, Bong County — The United Bong County Association of America (UBCAA), through its Kuwo, Ohio Chapter, has handed over a newly installed borehole hand pump to the Capitol Hill Community in Totota City, Bong County, to improve residents’ access to safe drinking water.
The dedication ceremony brought together representatives from the Totota City Mayor’s Office, District Commissioner’s Office, UBCAA leadership, community leaders, and residents.
Giving an overview of the project, UBCAA Liberia Country Director Margaret S. Weah said the initiative was undertaken in response to the community’s need for a reliable source of safe drinking water.
According to project documents, construction and installation of the borehole hand pump began on June 20, 2026, and was completed on July 15, 2026.
She explained that the project was funded by the UBCAA Kuwo, Ohio Chapter and implemented through the UBCAA Liberia Program, with Nkatou Borehole Drilling and Pump Installation serving as the contractor.
Weah said the project forms part of UBCAA’s broader community development efforts aimed at addressing basic needs and improving the well-being of residents.
She also encouraged community members to take proper care of the hand pump and work together to ensure that it remains functional and benefits residents for years to come.
Representing the UBCAA National Leadership, Mr. Aloysius Kienee, a UBCAA Board Member, expressed gratitude to the UBCAA Liberia Program team for successfully implementing the project. He also commended community leaders and residents for their cooperation and pledged UBCAA’s commitment to supporting more impactful initiatives across Bong County.
Representatives from the District Commissioner’s Office, Totota City Mayor’s Office, and Capitol Hill Community applauded the Kuwo, Ohio Chapter and UBCAA for the intervention.
They said the community is home to more than 4,000 residents and that the hand pump will help reduce reliance on unsafe sources of drinking water.
The Capitol Hill hand pump project is part of UBCAA’s continued efforts to support community development and improve the living conditions of residents across Bong County.
