MONROVIA – Thomas Tamba Bundoo, a prominent Liberian youth activist, has urged the Liberian Senate to expedite the confirmation process for the designated Minister of Defense, his deputy, and the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of Liberia.

Following the precedent set by his predecessor, George Weah, President Joseph Boakai nominated Major General Prince C. Johnson, retired, for the role of Minister of Defense; Brigadier General Geraldine George, retired, as Deputy Defense Minister for Operations; and promoted Col. Davidson T. Forleh to the rank of Brigadier General, nominating him for Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of Liberia.
Additionally, Defense Minister Major General Daniel D. Ziankahn was nominated as Ambassador-Designate. These nominations are currently under Senate consideration, although the confirmation process for the military personnel has yet to be initiated.
In an open letter to the Senate, Bundoo emphasized the critical need for a fully functional and well-equipped defense establishment in the face of current global security challenges.
He highlighted that the absence of confirmed leadership in these key positions impedes the effectiveness and efficiency of Liberia’s security apparatus. Moreover, delays in the confirmation process undermine public trust in the government’s ability to ensure citizen safety and protection.
Bundoo stressed the pivotal roles of the Defense Minister, Deputy Minister, and Chief of Staff in ensuring national security, border protection, and internal stability. He underscored the importance of their leadership in maintaining a strong and capable armed force essential for Liberia’s development and progress.
“I humbly request that you prioritize and expedite the confirmation process for the Defense Minister, Deputy Defense Minister, and Chief of Staff,” Bundoo urged the Senate. “By doing so, we can ensure the timely implementation of vital defense policies, effective coordination of our armed forces, and the strengthening of our national security.”
Expressing confidence in the Senate’s dedication to Liberia’s well-being, Bundoo emphasized that prompt action in expediting these confirmations would enhance Liberia’s defense capabilities and demonstrate the Senate’s commitment to national security and prosperity.
