Margibi County – The Ministry of Transport in collaboration with its partners is expected to officially launch the issuance of vehicle registration documents at the Margibi County Service Center in Kakata City today, Thursday, September 15, 2016.
A Transport Ministry release states that documents to be issued will include vehicle license plates, driver’s license and other transport related services and that the center will not only serve Margibi but also nearby counties in the region.
The release quotes Transport Minister Angela Cassell Bush as saying the initiative is part of government’s de-concentration platform, under the decentralization program.
The de-concentration platform seeks to take services offered by government to the people. Under this platform, various service oriented Ministries have begun working through the County Service Centers being established across the country.
The issuance of transport services will now add to the over twenty services offered at County Service Centers.
There are currently four Service Centers located in Grand Bassa, Nimba, Margibi and Bong Counties. But unlike the other ministries, the Transport Ministry’s services will only be offered in Kakata for now.
According to the release, the Transport Ministry services would be extended to Buchanan, Grand Bassa in the first week of October this year.
Since the inception of the current administration, services at the institution have dramatically improved and made easily accessible as compared to the past, when applicants would wait for up to one or more months, before getting driver’s license or vehicle registration documents.
In spite of the rapid improvements in a short period, vehicle operators in rural parts of the country still find it difficult to access these services.
Mr. Cassell Bush said the Ministry was committed to ensuring that all of its services are accessible and affordable to the general public throughout the length and breadth of Liberia.
The decentralization of the Transport Ministry’s services comes on the heels of the land mark initiative by the Ministry to revamp the meteorological division, making it easier to do weather forecast locally.
As part of this project, the first set of meteorological stations have been installed, with more installations at selected areas across the country pending while at least twenty-seven civil servants have left the country for intensive studies.
