In her opening remarks, Madam Karnga-Lawrence stated that the trip to China is an excellent opportunity to network with colleagues from other countries, share Liberian experiences, and exchange ideas, particularly on global peace and sustainable development.
The delegate includes Montserrado County Sen. Darius Dillon, Chairman, Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, and the Senate Pro-tempore who is also the administrative head of the Senate along with other personal staff.
“In few days, I will be speaking at the occasion for which we are here, on the topic “Poverty eradication and sustainability”.
“His Excellency Vice President, just to share a portion of that speech, ending poverty is a global concern that can be addressed effectively, if we include in our bilateral relationship economic cooperation, infrastructure development, capacity building, cultural exchange and regional cooperation.”
She reassured China that the bilateral relationships between Liberia and China would ensure cooperation in expanding trade and investment, emphasizing sustainable development that benefits both countries.
“In my capacity as the Pro-Tempore of our Senate, we have played our role and will continue to do so in ensuring that laws are passed to accommodate our vision for poverty eradication and sustainability, and will continue the engagements to keep the relationship stronger.
“We wish to express our gratitude for the courtesy and the experiences we have had so far. We know more about The People’s Republic of China than before, by our visit to the national museum today. It was an excellent experience.”
She expressed her gratitude to Chinese Vice President Han Zheng for considering a meeting with the Liberian delegation. She highlighted that this opportunity would significantly impact the political journey of the delegates and their service to Liberia.
“We want to thank your Ambassador to Liberia his Excellency Chengwu Yin for an excellent diplomatic relationship. We look forward to more of such visits and engagements in the interest of addressing our pressing challenges in our various countries,” she said.
Senate Pro-Tempore concluded by recognizing the longstanding bilateral relationship and diplomatic ties between the People’s Republic of China and Liberia, which have spanned over 47 years.
She highlighted that the relationship has grown stronger and more beneficial due to critical interventions by China in various sectors, including infrastructure, education, health, and economic development, especially following Liberia’s civil crisis.
