Monrovia – Jefferson Koijee, the Mayor of the City of Monrovia and Secretary General of the Congress for Democratic Change, has disclosed that he has consulted with his lawyers both at home and abroad to get Cllr. Jerome Verdier to court for accusing of him having a hand in the attempted assassination of former Chief Justice Cllr. Gloria Musu Scott that resulted to the death of her daughter.

On February 23, 2023, Cllr Verdier, serving as a guest on the Spoon Talk, disclosed that the City Mayor hired Varlee Tarlee, one of his security guards within the Monrovia City Police Department to kill the former Chief Justice Cllr. Scott. He, however, did not provide the motive behind Koijee’s alleged plot against the former Chief Justice.
Koijee in a response to Cllr. Verdier told journalists that he has no history of shedding the blood of a chicken, at lest to talk about a human being.
The Monrovia City Mayor further stated that those who are making such a statement are doing it for political reasons, something he is not good for the political climate, especially as the country is gearing up for its Presidential and Legislative elections.
“Those making unfounded claims are people who think the only shortcut to the Presidency of our country is to malign people like us with falsehood,” Mayor Koijee said.
He added: “People like Verdier have spent over the years finding lies to malign me but every time he does, the truth can defeat him. We have consulted our lawyers both at home and abroad to get him to court so he can prove some of those lies and innuendo.”
This is not the first time Cllr. Verdier has come out with damaging revelations against the Monrovia City Mayor.
But Koijee says such actions that are continually coming from Cllr. Verdier is not just an attack on his person but the governance system at large.
The CDC Secretary-General added: “The Justice Minister needs to take this very seriously because it’s becoming a systemic attack on our governance system.”
Koijee further stressed that the action from Cllr. Verdier threatens the peace and stability of Liberia and wants the US government to have concerned that a Liberian citizen is undermining Liberia’s peace on US soil.
“We know very well that once you threaten the peace and stability of the U.S, wherever you are the U.S get concerned and I hope they can do the same for Liberia when people like Vedier are using the U.S soil to undermine the peace of a country the U.S has invested a lot,” Koijee said.
He added: “We hope the Foreign Affairs Minister can reach out as well because this borders on the reputation of our country. Especially when Verdier is also accusing the President of the country. A man who has a track record of being the most peaceful character ever to exist in our country.”
