New Generation of Stars on the Rise at Buduburam

The Buduburam  camp located in the Gomoa East District in Ghana, has long being a habitat for Liberian refugees during the dark days of Liberia where Liberians fled to Buduburam to seek refuge beginning 1990 during the heat of the Liberian civil war.

While there were Liberians from various sectors at the refugee camp, one sector that caught the  eyes of many was the footballers who showcased in that part of the world despite the war in their native Liberia. For more than a decade, more Liberians explored to the scene with some of the “refugee footballers” going to stardom.

Some notable names that made the cut to Europe and other places  who became Liberian internationals were Prince Daye who featured for French club SC Bastia, Francis Doe, Al Ahly of Egypt, Minnesota Thunders and Attromitos of the USA and Greece respectively, Ben Teekloh,  Astra Poilisti of Romania and many others.

After three decades,it’s a new era as a new generation of promising stars are emerging. The LAMSA football academy  is the home of the next generation of promising stars.

The Barcelona sponsored football academy was founded by two Spanish students from Catalonia; Luis Juaregui and Max Griera: Luis And Max Soccer Academy, ( LAMSA). Founded on September 22, LAMSA runs three teams; U-10, U-13 and U-15 and comprises Ghanaians, Liberians and Ivorian kids who are certainly a delight to watch with their possession based game that has won them many admirers.

A total of 62 players under the tutelage of former LISCR and Mighty Barrolle( two elite clubs of Liberia), incisive midfielder Dominic Wisseh who also had stint in Indonesia and assisted by fellow Liberian, Moses Mulbah who both qualified the Power Sporting Club to the Second Division in Ghana, an unprecedented achievement from the perspective of coaching in Buduram.

Grassroots football has come to the limelight at Buduburam, an  area with a huge reputation of football fanaticism.

Some of the kids to watch out for include Tom Debleh, a Liberian all-round player who is versatile as a defender and midfielder.  The power house and engine room. Half Liberian,  half Ghanaian, Luther Quaye, a holding midfielder nicknamed “Busquet” Liberian, Robert Jarbo, an attacking midfielder cum striker whom his many admirers named “Tony Kroos” and the trio of Ghanaians; Albert Quansah, a deadly winger, Bismarck Bassau, a hardworking center back and the sublime Michael Asante widely known as the “ Messi of Buduram who many believe is the best player at Buduram. Coach Dominic Wisseh describes him as his “assistant on the pitch” who makes things easy and the list goes on.

There are lots of prospects for LAMSA with the Benjamin Franklin International  school of Barcelona said to be showing huge interest in such an ambitious project. The future is bright for LAMSA who are blessed with talents as their Tiki- Taka style of football has won the hearts of many football followers.
