National Public Health Institute of Liberia Gets International Accreditation

Monrovia – Barely three months following its enactment, the Liberia’s National Public Health Institute has been accredited as member of the International Association of National Public Health Institutes (IANPHI) with headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia-USA.

According to a release from the Institute, Liberia now joins 88 countries with established National Public Health Institutes across the world.

In his initial reaction, the Director General of the National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL), Mr. Tolbert Nyenswah described this latest development as a significant milestone in post-Ebola era aimed at strengthening resiliency of Liberia’s Health system.

Elated Director General, Tolbert Nyenswah thanked the International Association of National Public Health Institutes for technical and financial support in helping Liberia to establish its Public Health Institute.

He also lauded the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), US National Institute of Health (NIH), World Health Organization (WHO) and other valuable stakeholders for the confidence and strong working relationship, partnership and collaboration.

Director Nyenswah said although Liberia’s capacity to prevent, detect, and response to public health threat has significantly improved but more was needed to build a state of the art and cutting edge Center of Excellence for Public Health in Liberia.
