Paynesville – Rising Liberian model Goretti L. Itoka has donated assorted items including toiletries and pure water to Benson Hospital in Paynesville.
Miss Itoka, who is the current Miss Mano River Union International, made the presentation on Monday, August 19 at the hospital.
The gesture, she said, is her way of identifying with the hospital and appreciating the management for the meaningful health services it is rendering the public amid several challenges.
She noted that her desire to reach out to the institution derives from a collaboration she had with the National WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) Commission earlier this year where the Commission launched a clean-up campaign to encourage communities and institutions to keep their surroundings clean.
“As Miss Mano River Union International, I have the opportunity to reach out to companies and factories and talk to them. That’s how I went to National Toiletries and Bravo and get these items,” she said.
“This may not be enough. It is just a token of appreciation for the hospital and I believe there are others out there who can do more than this. I am encouraging them to reach out and identify with hospitals, not only Benson but other areas that are meaningfully contributing to the health needs of our people.”
She thanked the management of the National Toiletries and Bravo (Water Company) for the supplies that included toiletries and water.
She also toured the hospital’s ward and spoke with patients including women and children.
Speaking on behalf of the hospital, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Angela Benson thanked Miss Itoka for the gesture and called on well-meaning citizens to follow her footsteps.
Dr. Benson intimated that the hospital is a strictly run private institution that is providing needy healthcare services to the community despite the many challenges it is encountering.
Miss Goretti L. Itoka is a Liberian model who hails from Maryland County, and was crowned Miss MRU International earlier this year after putting up a brilliant performance that made her stand out among the other contestants from Sierra Leone, Guinea and Ivory Coast.
Goretti is an agriculture student at the Stella Maris Polytechnics in Monrovia. She participated in the 2017 edition of Miss Liberia and came second behind reigning Miss Liberia, Wokie Dolo.
Despite being an agriculture student, Miss Itoka is passionate about humanitarian works.
In 2017, she embarked on a tour of the Southeastern region where she visited patients at two major hospitals – Fish Town Hospital in River Gee County and JJ Dossen Hospital in Harper City, Maryland County giving them encouragement and love on their hospital beds.
She was also heavily involved in social media campaign for peaceful elections during the 2017 general elections in Liberia.
