The MCC through its City Mayor John-Charuk Siafa, on Monday, June 2, 2025, revealed that the MCC has uncovered significant financial losses to the city, prompting immediate suspensions and police involvement.

Mayor John-Charuk Siafa, in a statement addressing recent “distortion and misrepresentation of facts” in media reports, clarified that the ongoing probes are a direct result of a commitment to combating corruption and upholding financial integrity.

According to him, while full details remain under wraps due to the sensitive nature of the investigations, confirmed several alarming discoveries including fake Deposits and Unlawful Revenue Collection.

He said one major discovery involves the submission of fraudulent bank deposit slips to the MCC Revenue Director.

“These slips indicated payments in both USD and LD from four businesses into the MCC’s Ecobank account, leading to requests for official MCC receipts. However, our investigation revealed that these funds were never credited to the MCC account, a discrepancy confirmed by the bank slips themselves, one of which shared a serial number with another, raising immediate suspicion. The implicated staff member was suspended on April 16, 2025, and the matter is currently under investigation by the Liberia National Police,” Mayor John-Charuk Siafa’s statement noted.

Mayor Siafa further reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to upholding integrity, honesty, Nd responsible public financial management.

“We will not tolerate any actions that defraud the city and its residents,” Mayor Siafa added.
