Monrovia – The House of Representative bid of Liberian gospel music icon, Kanvee Gaines Adams, got a big boost over the weekend when hundreds of residents of GSA Road Community in District #6 vowed to vote her as their representative come 2017.
District #6, one of the most populous electoral districts in Montserrado County, is currently being represented by Edwin Snowe.
Rep. Snowe has consistently said he would not run for re-election in the district comes 2017.
At a welcome ceremony in Kissi Camp Community, the citizens praised Adams for her humanitarian initiatives over the years and promised to elect her comes 2017.
“We the residents of GSA Road say we are for you, Ambassador Adams,” said Elder Isaac Ziah of Congba Town, GSA Road.
“We will rally our support behind you because you are a woman and a Christian. We know you will advocate for us,” a delighted Ziah told the gathering.
In brief remarks, Ambassador Adams promised the citizens that she would be their voice if given the opportunity to represent them at the National Legislature.
She told the citizens that she had decided to contest the Legislative seat to bring about positive change in the district.
“There are people who are just destined to make things happen; and I am one of those who want to make things happen in this country,” she said.
“Give me your strength; give me your energy and let’s make this district one of the best place to live in Liberia,” the gospel icon cum politician declared.
Speaking further, Ambassador Adams revealed that an assortment of medical materials is expected to arrive in the country soon from the United States of America to be distributed in several clinics and health centers across the district. She said the initiative was part of her humanitarian worked that began in 2010.
She also said that as part of her youth empowerment programs, plans are underway to erect a youth center to build the capacity of the young people.
“The young people sitting here after school need somewhere else to go; and that is why I have made it my business to make sure that we establish a very strong and vibrant youth center where you are going to be computer literate and you going to have a place for exchange of knowledge,” Ambassador Adams told the gathering amid a thunderous applause.
She also vowed to work with her colleagues, when elected, to ensure that government makes provision for students to have loan to go to college of their choice, adding “those things have worked in other places of the world and they can work here; so what I need is your support”.
On arts and entertainment, the Liberian gospel musical icon said she will work in collaboration with her colleagues to improve the sector. She thanked the residents for ‘the warm reception’ and called on them, especially the youths of the district, to make the right choice comes 2017.
“To all the young people,” Ambassador Adams urged, “I don’t want you to be hopeless. “
“There is still hope for this nation, there is hope for your future, and there is still hope for your dreams; but you have to keep up the hope by looking for the people who will make this hope come to reality,” she admonished.
