The Liberian government had long unveiled plan for the construction of two overpass bridges on Tubman Boulevard in Monrovia to alleviate traffic congestion.

These overpasses are part of a project funded by the Chinese government under an Economic and Technical Cooperation Agreement. The project aims to improve traffic flow and infrastructure by building two overpasses, auxiliary roads, and ramps, with a total length of approximately 4,293 meters. The project is expected to improve traffic flow around the SKD stadium and the ministerial complex.

Speaking Thursday, May 29, 2025 at the quarterly Open Government Initiative Open House meeting held at the Ministry in Monrovia, Minister Roland L. Giddings disclosed that construction of the bridges will begin immediately in the next dry season.

“They will be built. By the next dry season, there will massive construction and those bridges are among the projects,” asserted the Minister.

As government earmarks many projects in the near future, the Minister called on Liberians to adhere to the basic zooming province, or else, face the penalties thereof.

“If you want to build, come to the Ministry to get your guidelines before construction. Do not continue to build in the alley. We will be there very. We will go ahead and take action.”

He vowed to ensure transparency at all levels as the Ministry carries out government projects, most of which are being funded by the donor community.

There were highlights thrown on several of the projects by different presenters at the second edition of the MPW Open House meeting.

Key among those projects are the RIA Road Project, which is expected to be completed within the next 36 months (2028), the Barclayville to Sass Town Road Project and the second phase of the Japan funded Gabriel Tucker Bridge to St. Paul Bridge through the Freeport corridor.

The Open House Initiative is intended to enhance transparency and accountability in the implementation of infrastructural projects. The Ministry of Public Works first held the series of the Open House meeting in February of this year.
