Monrovia – In an effort to rehabilitate roads in rural Montserrado County, particularly in Districts #1 and #3, and also to boost one of government’s desperate promises, two additional caterpillars have been dedicated from the joint partnership of Representatives Lawrence Morris and Ceebee C.D. Barshell. The two earth-moving machines bring to three, which they have acquired in three months for the rehabilitation of roads in their constituencies.
Two months ago, the two Montserrado County lawmakers jointly and personally purchased the first road machine to alternately and rotationally construct, rehabilitate and maintain feeders and farm to markets roads throughout the two districts, and since then there have been massive roads works.
The two machines, which were dedicated on the campus of the Barshell University College (BUC) on Monday, June 3, 2019, will also be used by the BUC Agriculture Department to help agriculture students improve in their studies, productivity and efficiency.
Rep. Morris stressed the significant role agriculture plays in the economic development of any country, including “strategic role in the process of economic development, significant contribution to the economic prosperity, provide food and raw material, and provide employment to both uneducated, unskilled labor and educated Liberians.”
The Montserrado County District #1 lawmaker, who is also member of the Board of Trustees of BUC, said: “Yellow machines – caterpillars will play a crucial role in building and rehabilitating roads as well as infrastructure and agriculture.
“Rep. Barshell and I have collaborated to acquire at least six yellow machines, three of which are here to be working in our respective districts as well as help the Agriculture Department of the Barshell University. These machines will also help buttress government efforts. These machines were procured from lobbying and from our pockets; there has not been no government support.”
Unlike the partnership in the roads connectivity, Rep. Morris is also sponsoring over 160 students at the Barshell University with “graceful discounts.”
