Liberia to Destroy Over US$336 Million Worth of Seized Cocaine in Landmark Anti-Drug Operation

MONROVIA – Liberia’s Joint Security is set to destroy two of the country’s largest cocaine consignments ever seized, with a combined estimated street value exceeding US$336 million, in what authorities describe as a major step in the country’s fight against transnational drug trafficking.

The destruction will include 3,971 kilograms of cocaine valued at approximately US$317.68 million, which was seized during a major security operation in the VOA Community, Paynesville, as well as 237.6 kilograms of cocaine worth more than US$19 million, intercepted at Roberts International Airport (RIA).

The planned destruction comes after weeks of high-profile investigations, arrests, and court proceedings linked to the two separate drug busts, which have drawn significant national and international attention.

The VOA Community seizure is regarded as the largest cocaine bust in Liberia’s history, while the RIA interception exposed alleged attempts by an international trafficking network to use the country’s main international airport as a transit point for illicit narcotics.

Security authorities say the destruction demonstrates the government’s commitment to ensuring that the seized drugs never re-enter circulation and underscores Liberia’s determination to combat organized crime and international drug trafficking.

Further details, including venue, and officials expected to witness the destruction, are anticipated from the Joint Security.
