Liberia: Student Activist Beaten Mercilessly Allegedly by Drug Enforcement Officers

Monrovia – Reports reaching FrontPageAfrica says student and political activist, Martin Kollie, was last night beaten allegedly by officers of the Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency (LDEA).

Carlos Tingban, chairman of the campus-based Student Unification Party (SUP), told FrontPageAfrica Saturday evening that Martin was manhandled by the officers at Renaissance Bar, a local club around Du Port Road Junction. “He was left half-way dead,” Carlos said.

According to Carlos, the LDEA officers attacked Martin when he refused to surrender his laptop at their demand.

Carlos said Martin was rescued by by-standers and passersby who recognized him.

FrontPageAfrica has not been able to independently verify the allegations against the LDEA officers who still remain unknown. All efforts to get comments from Police Spokesman, Moses Carter, did not materialize.

Frontpageafrica gathered that Martin has been admitted at a local clinic in Monrovia. He has not been able to talk to anyone since the incident, FPA was told.

More details to follow soon.
