Monrovia — George S. Tengbeh has resigned as Acting Head of Secretariat and Secretary General of Solidarity and Trust for a New Day (STAND), announcing an immediate suspension of his membership in the civic movement to focus on labor rights advocacy and the protection of vulnerable children.
In a resignation statement addressed to STAND members and Liberians, Tengbeh said his decision follows “careful reflection” and is driven not by disillusionment, but by what he described as a growing responsibility to serve Liberia’s labor community through the Liberia Labour and Governance Alliance (LILGA).
Tengbeh, a founding leader of STAND since its establishment in February 2024, played a central role in organizing nationwide peaceful protests, including the high-profile “Enough Is Enough” demonstration that drew thousands of citizens into the streets to demand accountability, respect for the rule of law, and socio-economic reforms.
“Justice denied today is justice denied forever,” Tengbeh said, noting that STAND consistently pursued peaceful civic engagement while challenging corruption, human rights abuses, and governance failures. He emphasized that the organization worked within constitutional boundaries, formally notifying authorities of protests and engaging law enforcement in dialogue.
Under his tenure, STAND emerged as a prominent civic voice, mobilizing young people, workers, and ordinary citizens to participate more actively in governance and democratic processes.
Tengbeh said his transition to LILGA has become necessary due to the organization’s expanding caseload, particularly in matters involving child labor, trafficking, and abuse. “Ineffective or inactive service benefits no institution nor public cause,” he stated, adding that his full attention is now required to address these urgent issues.
Despite stepping aside from STAND, Tengbeh reaffirmed his commitment to peaceful criticism, constructive dialogue, and protest as essential tools for democratic resilience. He pledged to continue advocating for justice, equity, and human dignity from his new platform.
STAND has not yet issued an official statement on Tengbeh’s resignation or announced interim leadership arrangements.
Tengbeh concluded by thanking Liberians for the opportunity to serve and expressed hope that collective civic action would continue to drive “transformational progress for all.”
