MONROVIA — Bomi County Senator Honorable Edwin Melvin Snowe Jr., who also serves as Chairman of the ECOWAS Parliament Committee on Political Affairs, Peace, Security, and the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM), has emphasized the need for deeper regional collaboration and collective responsibility in addressing the security challenges confronting West Africa.

Speaking Wednesday on the Early Morning Breakfast Show on Radio Bomi 98.9, Senator Snowe provided updates on his ongoing international engagements as well as development initiatives in his home county.
The Liberian lawmaker disclosed that he is currently in Istanbul, Turkey, where he is representing the ECOWAS region at the Global Security Conference, a gathering that brings together leaders, policymakers, and experts from across the world to deliberate on global peace and security issues.
According to Senator Snowe, the conference offers an important platform for Africa, particularly the West African subregion, to contribute meaningfully to international conversations on conflict prevention, peacebuilding, and the strengthening of democratic governance.
He explained that his participation in the conference is part of ECOWAS’s continued efforts to position West Africa as an active contributor to global peace processes, noting that insecurity in one country often has far-reaching consequences for neighboring states.
Senator Snowe stressed that regional stability depends on cooperation among member states, collective decision-making, and consistent engagement with global partners who share the vision of a peaceful and prosperous Africa.
“As representatives of West Africa, our collective voice is essential in shaping global discussions on peace, security, and stability,” Senator Snowe stated during the radio interview. “It is through regional cooperation that we can better confront the threats undermining our communities and promote sustainable peace across the subregion.”
He noted that the ECOWAS Parliament continues to play a pivotal role in promoting peace, security, and democratic governance through dialogue, mediation, and the harmonization of policies among member countries.
Senator Snowe added that the lessons shared at the conference in Turkey will contribute significantly to ongoing regional efforts to combat terrorism, strengthen border security, and enhance the role of parliaments in maintaining peace.
Turning to domestic matters, Senator Snowe expressed deep frustration over what he described as the selective approach by some local county authorities in inviting county leaders to events related to projects financed through the County Development Fund (CDF). He stressed that such practices create unnecessary division and undermine the spirit of transparency and inclusion that should guide local governance.
The Senator called for openness and accountability in the management of public resources, noting that every development initiative must be implemented in a way that genuinely benefits the people of Bomi County.
He also used the occasion to inform his constituents about several ongoing development projects he is spearheading across the county. These include the construction of a modern basketball court with a large seating capacity, the near-completion of a town hall in Sackie Town, the fencing of the Zordee Clinic to enhance healthcare delivery, the construction of another town hall in Lower Zor, Suehn Mecca District, and the building of a new clinic in Weajor, Dewoin District.
Senator Snowe said these projects are part of his broader commitment to improving social infrastructure and creating opportunities for community growth.
According to him, development must be people-centered and inclusive, ensuring that no community feels left out of the county’s progress. He urged residents and local leaders to set aside personal differences and work together for the collective good, emphasizing that unity and cooperation are essential for sustainable development.
“In everything we do, we must remember that development and peace go hand in hand,” Senator Snowe added. “When we put the interests of our people first and work together as one, we all win.”
