Liberia Runs Out of Jet Fuel

MONROVIA — In the midst of the celebration of the festive season, Conex Energy Liberia has announced the shortage of jet fuel in the country.

Last year, the African distribution business acquired the Liberia and Sierra Leone businesses of French petroleum refining company Total Energies for an undisclosed sum.

In a statement issued in Monrovia on Tuesday, December 26, the company disclosed that the arrival of jet fuel in Liberia will be delayed as a result of the shortage on the global market.

“We are constrained to inform the public that there is an aviation fuel shortage in the region. According to the Airline Operators of Nigeria (“AON”) and The Guardian, there is a shortage of aviation fuel in the region.”

“Based on the above, Conex Energy Liberia informs the public that there is a delay in the arrival of the next Jet Fuel vessel, causing low fuel stock at Roberts International Airport (“RIA”). The vessel should have arrived on December 14, 2022. We are now being informed that the vessel will not be in Liberia until January 13, 2023.”

The company disclosed that during this period, airlines will use alternative methods / locations for fueling.

It pointed out that it has already communicated to all relevant stakeholders, including the Ministries of Commerce, Transport, the Liberia Civil Aviation Authority (LCAA), the Roberts International Airport (RIA), and the Liberia Petroleum Refining Company (LPRC).

The company emphasized that the communication to relevant ministries and agencies in the aviation sector is to allow its customers and stakeholders time to plan accordingly.

“We are trying our level best to secure Jet Fuel for Liberia as soon as possible. We will update the public as progress is made. Thanks to all for your patience and understanding as we navigate through this situation.”
