The escalating tensions between the two communities, which have resulted in injuries and destruction, pose a serious threat to lives and stability in River Gee County. Expressing deep concern over the situation, Cllr. Teh emphasized that violence is never a justifiable means of resolving land conflicts.

A Call for Dialogue and Mediation

Cllr. Teh, a respected figure in Liberia’s legal community and a native of River Gee County, has called on both communities to engage in constructive dialogue rather than resorting to aggression. Acknowledging the historical and deeply rooted complexities of land disputes, he stressed that such conflicts must be addressed through peaceful negotiation, mediation, and legal channels.

“There is no justification for harming individuals or communities over land claims,” Cllr. Teh stated. “Land is a vital resource, and while disputes are inevitable, they must be resolved in ways that promote harmony and development, rather than division and destruction.”

Appeal to Local Leaders and Authorities

In his statement, Cllr. Teh urged local leaders, traditional elders, community representatives, and government authorities to intervene swiftly by facilitating peace talks and conflict resolution mechanisms. He also encouraged the involvement of neutral third-party organizations to mediate the dispute fairly and equitably.

“It is crucial that we work towards solutions that foster unity and cooperation rather than deepening the divide between communities. Our strength lies in our ability to resolve conflicts peacefully, ensuring the safety and well-being of all citizens,” he remarked.

Commitment to Peace and Reconciliation

Cllr. Teh reaffirmed his commitment to promoting peace, coexistence, and mutual respect in River Gee County, stressing the need for a long-term framework to prevent future conflicts over land ownership.

“Let us remember that our progress as a county depends on our ability to live together in peace. I call on all stakeholders to prioritize dialogue and understanding, so we can build a future based on mutual respect and cooperation,” he concluded.

As tensions continue, all eyes are on local and national authorities to take decisive steps in ensuring that justice and reconciliation prevail, restoring peace and stability to the affected communities.
