Monrovia–Presidential Press Secretary Atty. Kula B. N. Fofana has pledged the full support of the Office of the Presidential Press Secretary to the Reporters Association of Liberia (RAL), emphasizing that the Office remains open and committed to working with the Association in strengthening journalism and promoting professional development.
Speaking as Co-Launcher at the induction and leadership program of the Reporters Association of Liberia, on Friday, July 10, Atty. Fofana conveyed warm greetings from President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. and expressed appreciation to the Association for the invitation to address its members.
Recognizing the presence of the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Liberia, Yin Chengwu, the Minister of Information Jerolinmek Mathew Piah, RAL President J.H. Webster Clayeh, members of the Association’s leadership, and other distinguished guests, the Presidential
Press Secretary described the Association’s theme on welfare, inclusion, and reform as both timely and relevant.
Reflecting on the theme, Atty. Fofana observed that while Liberia’s media continues to “sit on the old mat,” the profession must embrace meaningful reforms that improve the welfare of journalists, strengthen institutional capacity, and promote greater inclusion within the media landscape.
She encouraged the new leadership to capitalize on the talents, energy, and influence of women serving within the Association, noting that their participation would be critical to achieving the organization’s goals.
The Presidential Press Secretary further assured the Association of her Office’s readiness to collaborate by facilitating introductions to development partners and professional networks that can support institutional growth and capacity building.
Addressing the issue of journalists’ welfare, Atty. Fofana stressed that the well-being of media professionals deserves urgent attention, urging the Association to develop a clear policy and practical plan that prioritizes the welfare of its members while advancing broader institutional reforms.
She also reminded the newly elected leadership that its three-year tenure presents a limited window to make a lasting impact, encouraging members to remain focused, filter through distractions, and prioritize initiatives that will leave a meaningful legacy.
As a demonstration of her commitment to the Association’s vision, Atty. Fofana announced an initial personal contribution of One Hundred Thousand Liberian Dollars (LD$100,000) to support the Association as it begins implementing its agenda.
She concluded by congratulating the newly inducted leadership of the Reporters Association of Liberia, with special recognition to President Webster Clayeh and Assistant Secretary, Princess Kamara, both members of the Executive Mansion Press Corps assigned to cover the Presidency.
Atty. Fofana expressed confidence in the new leadership’s ability to advance the Association’s agenda, noting that constructive collaboration between government and the media remains vital to strengthening democratic governance, promoting accountability and fostering national development.
