Among the dignitaries attending the ceremony was Cllr. Nelson Freeman, Liberia National Police Deputy Inspector General for Operations, whose unwavering commitment to law enforcement has left an indelible mark on the PSU and the broader policing community.
Cllr. Freeman, who has served in various professional capacities within the LNP over the years, was at the center of the day’s events.
Delivering special remarks, Cllr. Freeman commended the men and women of the PSU for their consistent professionalism, courage, and dedication in upholding law and order, especially in high-risk and volatile situations.
He urged officers to remain unwavering in their commitment to service, stressing that discipline and integrity are the cornerstone values of effective policing.
“The PSU continues to serve as a shining example of what it means to be a professional police officer in a democracy. As we celebrate this 20-year milestone, let us also renew our commitment to the core values that define our service,” Cllr. Freeman said.
Cllr. Freeman emphasized the need for continued training, community engagement, and strategic reform within the unit, aligning with international standards for policing and human rights.
In a moment that symbolized both personal and institutional growth, he further presented certificates of recognition to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the development and operational success of the PSU.
Cllr. Freeman’s career in the LNP spans several transformative periods.
Known for his principled leadership and deep understanding of public safety dynamics, Freeman has played a pivotal role in policy development, inter-agency collaboration, and capacity building within the force.
His colleagues and observers alike credit Freeman with fostering a professional culture within the PSU and advocating for improved conditions and recognition for officers at all levels.
“Nelson Freeman is not just a career officer; he is a model of leadership and a symbol of quiet transformation within the LNP,” remarked one senior officer at the event.
The anniversary celebration was marked by high-level participation from security stakeholders, government officials, and international partners.
The event showcased tactical displays, formal recognition of long-serving officers, and renewed pledges to support the PSU’s evolving mandate.
The atmosphere reflected the PSU’s values of unity, professionalism, and service.
Uniformed officers stood in neat formation, a visual testament to the discipline and pride that continue to define the unit.
As Liberia navigates complex security challenges, including civil unrest, organized crime, and community-police relations, the role of the PSU remains critical. Freeman used the platform to call for sustained investment in law enforcement infrastructure, modern equipment, and officer welfare.
The 20th Anniversary not only honored past achievements but also set the tone for a forward-looking vision, one that builds on experience, adapts to emerging threats, and reinforces public trust.
For Nelson Freeman and the PSU, the day was more than a celebration, it was a reaffirmation of purpose, and a reminder that effective policing is a pillar of national development.
