MONROVIA — Officers of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency have arrested a 45-year-old Guinean national and confiscated suspected narcotics along with a staggering US$1.18 million in cash during a routine border inspection at the Bo Waterside crossing in Grand Cape Mount County.
According to an official briefing released Friday by Fitzgerald T.M. Biago, Deputy Commissioner of Police who is also the Officer-In-Charge of the Agency, the arrest occurred on Thursday, March 26, at approximately 5:00 PM, when officers assigned to the Grand Cape Mount Detachment conducted a routine search at the Bo Waterside Port of Entry.
The suspect, identified as Alpha M. Jalloh, a resident of Mamba Point in Monrovia, was apprehended after officers discovered two packs of Tapentadol, valued at approximately L$50,000. The substance was reportedly concealed in a blue Toyota minibus bearing Guinean license plate number BH-5002.
Authorities say the discovery took a dramatic turn when officers uncovered a large cache of cash — totaling US$1,187,000 — inside the same vehicle. The origin and intended use of the money remain under investigation.
Jalloh is currently in LDEA custody and undergoing further investigation as authorities prepare for possible prosecution. Meanwhile, the seized cash has been turned over to customs authorities and is being held by Officer Pauline S. Goll, who is assigned at the Bo Waterside border post.
The LDEA, operating under the Ministry of Justice, says it will continue to provide updates as the investigation progresses.
The seizure marks one of the most significant cash interceptions at a Liberian border in recent times and raises fresh concerns about cross-border trafficking and illicit financial flows within the Mano River region.
