Liberia: LBDI Identifies with the Needy as Part of 60th Anniversary Celebration

Monrovia – As part of the many activities being lined up for the ongoing 60th Anniversary Celebration, the Liberia Bank for Development and Investment (LBDI) on Wednesday, November 26, 2025 made a passionate intervention at the Antoinette Tubman Cheshire Home (ATCH) in Monrovia.

Established 1985, the home was name in honored of Antoinette Louise Padmore Tubman, wife of former Liberian head of state Williams S. Tubman. The home caters to individuals with cerebral palsy, especially children, and any other with physical and mental disabilities.

However, like other charity homes across the country, the home has been confronted with several challenges including but not limited to feeding and sanitary materials that are mostly needed.

It is on the heel of this background that LBDI made this thus landmark intervention in reaffirmation of its long-standing commitment to community welfare. In so doing, the country’s oldest banking group made a generous donation to the Home, a residential facility that cares for physically challenged individuals.

Leading the delegation, Madam Angela K. Gerdau, LBDI’s Senior Vice President for Marketing, said the bank deliberately included the Cheshire Home in its anniversary activities because of their historic relationship and shared commitment to supporting vulnerable groups in society.

“We are members of the board, and because of the work that the home continues to do, we consider you family. This year is a big milestone for us, and while you couldn’t come over to the bank to celebrate, so we brought something small to share the joy with you. These items were carefully researched to reflect your daily needs,” said the LBDI official.

The bank’s donation included 20 bags of rice, three bales of assorted clothing, toiletries, cooking oil, bedding, and other essential supplies.

According to Madam Gerdau, the items were selected following consultations with the home to ensure they addressed the residents’ most pressing needs.

The LBDI representative added that the Chairman of the bank’s board had already been briefed on the outreach effort, stressing that the gesture was part of the bank’s culture of giving back.

Receiving the donation, Mr. Presley Peter Toby, Acting Manager of the Antoinette Tubman Cheshire Home, expressed heartfelt thanks on behalf of the board, staff, and residents.

He described the support as timely and deeply meaningful.

“These items are things we use daily, and they will be used for the intended purpose. As you celebrate your 60th anniversary, we pray that God blesses the LBDI family with more customers and prosperity. This is a bank I have known since I was a little boy, a true Liberian institution.”

Mr. Toby pointed out that such acts of kindness remind the residents that they are not forgotten by the outside world.

“When our residents see these things, they are happy because they know people out there still think about them. We highly appreciate you and wish you a happy 60th anniversary.”
