Monrovia — A heated public exchange has erupted between former Monrovia City Mayor and Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) Secretary General Jefferson Koijee and Montserrado County Senator Abraham Darius Dillon, with both men trading sharp accusations and rebuttals over integrity, governance, and recent Senate actions.
Koijee ignited the controversy in a lengthy and blistering Facebook post, portraying Senator Dillon as a “soulless opportunist” and accusing him of hypocrisy, political inconsistency, and corruption.
Dillon is a ranking member of the Liberty Party. He and his party aligned with the ruling Unity Party in 2023. That alliance was pivotal in the election of President Joseph Boakai.
Drawing on history, Koijee alleged that Dillon has repeatedly aligned himself with those in power while abandoning earlier rhetoric on transparency and accountability.
Koijee accused Dillon of defending the Charles Taylor government following the 1997 murder of Samuel Saye Dokie and his family while serving as a legal aide at the Ministry of Justice. He accused the Montserrado Senator of having a “checkered past,” including alleged professional misconduct and dishonesty. He said Dillon actively promotes incompetence and patronage within the current Joseph Boakai administration.
According to him, Dillon is complicit in corruption through alleged kickbacks from political appointees loyal to him; and remained conspicuously silent on what Koijee described as glaring red flags in the Draft 2026 National Budget, including increased legislative spending and heavy reliance on one-off revenues.
He also accused him of betraying campaign promises, including a pledge to limit his salary, while allegedly benefiting from illicit gains.
Koijee also accused Dillon of harboring hostility toward the people of Nimba County, citing past statements and actions involving the late Senator Prince Y. Johnson and more recent criticism of Labor Minister Cllr. Cooper Kruah, Sr.
In response, Senator Dillon pushed back against at least one central allegation — that he supported the confirmation of Fatima Bintu Sirleaf as Deputy Minister for Urban Affairs, a nominee Koijee claims lied under oath.
In a brief statement, Dillon dismissed the claim as “misleading and uninformed,” explaining that he did not vote during the confirmation.
“I presided over the Senate that day. A presiding officer does not vote unless there is a tie,” Dillon said, adding pointedly, “Even the media can be deliberately uninformed sometimes.”
Dillon’s clarification emphasized Senate procedure, noting that no tie occurred during the confirmation, thereby barring him from voting.
However, Koijee swiftly fired back, arguing that Dillon’s explanation only reinforced, rather than dispelled, the broader critique.
According to Koijee, the issue is not merely whether Dillon cast a vote, but whether he publicly opposed or condemned what he described as perjury during the confirmation process.
“Silence in the face of perjury is not neutrality; it is complicity,” Koijee wrote, further alleging that Dillon, as a ranking member of the relevant Senate committee, played a role in granting the nominee a “second chance” before her eventual confirmation.
Koijee accused Dillon of reducing the Senate’s oversight role to “farce” and questioned his fitness to continue serving, asserting that expediency has replaced principle in Dillon’s public conduct.
The exchange has drawn widespread attention on social media, reflecting deeper political tensions between the ruling Unity Party-led government and opposition figures linked to the former CDC administration.
