Liberia: Jewel Howard Taylor Rushed to GIMS Hospital After Medical Emergency in Police Custody

MONROVIA, LIBERIA — Former Vice President Jewel Howard Taylor has been rushed to GIMS Hospital in Sophie, Monrovia, after reportedly experiencing a medical emergency while in police custody.

Taylor was transported to the medical facility Thursday evening under heavy police escort after health practitioners reportedly observed a significant rise in her blood pressure.

The medical emergency occurred as authorities were preparing to transfer the former vice president to the Monrovia City Court, where she was expected to face proceedings stemming from allegations of drug trafficking and money laundering.

FrontPageAfrica has gathered that medical personnel were called to the Liberia National Police Headquarters after concerns were raised about Taylor’s condition. She has remained in police custody since her arrest.

She was subsequently placed in a heavily escorted police convoy and taken to GIMS Hospital for further medical evaluation and treatment.

Her expected court appearance has now been thrown into uncertainty as doctors assess her condition.

The development comes amid heightened security surrounding the former vice president, whose arrest and detention have generated significant public attention.

Police Spokesman Sam Collins confirmed Taylor’s transfer to the medical facility but did not provide details about her current condition or say whether she would be taken to court following treatment.

FrontPageAfrica is continuing to follow the developing situation.
