Liberia: Impact Institute Begins Capacity Building Training for Small Businesses in West Point and New Kru Town

MONROVIA – A not-for-profit organization, Impact Institute, has embarked on a four-day capacity-building training for over 800 women and girls in small business in two of Liberia’s populated slums, West Point and New Kru Town.

The training, which commenced in West Point, aimed to develop and boost the capacity of young female entrepreneurs in smallholder business administration management and teach them how they can become self-reliant.

Accordingly, the training will also focus on several topics that include building self-esteem, making real-life success, sanitation, healthcare and creating a productive community. At the same time, it will provide basic knowledge on how to sustain a small business.

At the start of the training, the president of the organization Dr Rudy Bropleh described smallholders’ business as the foundation for a productive society and a stronger economy.

He stated that the training is intended to provide empowerment to the community, teach and enable Liberia to raise a productive society.

According to him, the above topics were chosen to strengthen self-confidence and how these participants can make good decisions in business and their surroundings.

He emphasized that if smallholder businesses are given attention and trained, it will assist Liberia to speedily recover from poverty.

Said Dr. Bropleh: “Small businesses are the bedrock for a productive society and strong economy. Those countries that are having better economies invested in small business and human capacity.”

“Investing in person is important for community associate productivity. The best way to build the country is the people because they are the country’’.

He added, “We are trying to help people so that they can help themselves. We are doing this to enable our people, especially women and girls to be able to make the right choice for business growth and social betterment.”

Speaking in an interview, one of the participants, Kaidu Kamara expressed her appreciation to the Institution for the training.

She disclosed that she learned how to strategically plan her goals and purpose in life.

“I have learned to keep my environment clean and healthy. It is not just the government work but all of us. We hope this training will be taken to other communities so that others can put their lives on the right path’’ she said.

Another participant, Ms. Precious Baffoe stated that she is grateful to form part of the training, describing it as rewarding.

‘’I am excited to be in this program today. We want to thank the Impact Institute and its partners for this initiative. It’s rewarding and eye-opening,” she stated.
