Zwedru – Senator Thomas Yaya Nimely of Grand Gedeh County has been accused of interfering into an ongoing rape investigation of a four years old minor. According to reports, the G. Gedeh senator is calling for released of people involve.
It is reported that the suspect only identifies as Alpha, of the Fula tribe and 28years old last week Tuesday allegedly raped Mary Mary (Not her real name) in the Zanwoo Quarters, community in Zwedru city.
According to reports, Suspect Alpha upon, committing the act, attempted to flee the scene but was apprehended by an individual who was resisted by four of Alpha’s kinsmen which give him the chance to escaped the scene and has since been on the run.
In response to the incident, the police arrested the four individuals, as alibi to the commitment of the crime to produce the location or the individual accused of raping the four-year-old girl, but Senator Nimely intervention has come as a Major stumbling block to the ongoing investigation.
The four individuals are: Abullah Barry. Habib Barry, Asatu Jalloh, Mariama Bah. When contacted, Police Inspector Samuel N. Paye who’s in charge of the investigation refused to comment on grounds the incident is an ongoing investigation. However, he confirmed that an act of rape did occur.
When contacted Senator Nimley, confirmed his involvement, and said, he got involved because he was informed that the police were refusing to release the four individuals despite the intervention of the Fula Governor who had promised to stand bond for their release.
He also claimed that he was also been informed that the Police were requesting a sum of US$400 for the four individuals accused of facilitating the escaped of the perpetrator before they could be release. This statement by the Senator has not been proven to be fact.
Senator Nimley said: “This whole story about rape is still an allegation because the victim hasn’t been taken to hospital to show whether or not an act was committed. These police officer shouldn’t be intimidating our people. I believe it is best to use those arrested to find the alleged perpetrator, but from what I see, people are trying to politicize this whole rape thing.”
