Monrovia – U.S. Congressman Erik Philip Paulsen has invited Liberia’s Deputy Speaker Prince K. Moye of the House of Representatives of the 54th Legislature to discuss pertinent issues facing the people of Liberia.
Congressman Paulsen is a ranking member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Minnesota’s 3rd District and also Chairman of the Joint Economics Committee.
The Republican lawmaker is also a member of the Ways and Means committee; sub-committee on Health and sub-committee on Trade and was a Minnesota House Majority Leader.
The communication from Congressman Paulsen which copy is in the possession of this newspaper reads: “I would like to invite you to meet with me in my Washington D.C. office during the week of September 4, 2018, to discuss issues facing the people of Liberia, the important role that the Liberian community has played in Minnesota and how we can strengthen Liberia and the United States.”
Congressman Paulsen, 53, before entering politics worked as a businessman. He was one of the Congressmen, who has been a longtime proponent of immigration reform and supports granting temporary legal status to those who were brought to the U.S. illegally as children.
He recently stated: “Ensuring that young people who came to the United States through no fault of their own and have done nothing wrong are able to be valuable contributors to our country.”
In May 2018, Paulsen joined House Democrats in signing a “discharge petition” to force the House to vote on a series of immigration bills, including one that would provide permanent legal status to those who came to the country illegally as children.
Paulsen does not support building a wall along the U.S. border with Mexico, citing its projected multi-billion-dollar cost.
According to the office of the Deputy Speaker, the delegation comprised of five persons that departed the country on Sunday, September 2, 2018 for the duration of 28 days.
Sources say besides the Paulsen’s visit, the Deputy Speaker is expected to also meet other US government officials and business entrepreneurs.
Ahead of his travels, a spokesperson of the Deputy Speaker office said a communication of his official excuse from Session has been sent to Speaker Bhofal Chambers.
Deputy Speaker Moye began a member of the House of Representatives on January 16, 2012 and served as Co-chairman and Chairman respectively on the Committee on Ways, Means, Finance and Development Planning during the 53rdLegislature.
On January 15, 2018, he was elected as Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives of the 54th Legislature. He is also an executive member of the Unity Party (UP).
